Vancouver Based Practice Joins Hundreds of Laser Professionals in Offering Free Radiation Mark Removal
Vancouver, B.C. – Arbutus Laser Center has volunteered in the New Beginnings: Radiation Mark Removal Program, a national philanthropic campaign, coordinated by the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS), offering free radiation mark removal for cancer patients.
“Although I have been removing radiation marks at no cost for the past 17 years, I am excited about being part of this new program which will hopefully reach more people” commented Dr. Gerald Boey (Medical director of Arbutus Laser Center)
Arbutus Laser Center has joined over 150 certified ASLMS members who have volunteered to remove radiation marks (a.k.a. tattoos) absolutely free of charge for cancer survivors so that they can have the new beginning they deserve. The number of ASLMS members enrolling in the program is growing by the day.
“The ASLMS membership includes very generous and caring medical professionals, just like Arbutus Laser Center, who believe they can make a difference in the lives of cancer patients across the U.S. through their time and expertise,” commented Jeffrey S. Dover, M.D., FRCPC, Past President of the ASLMS. “We are pleased that Arbutus Laser Center is participating.”
Physicians at Arbutus Laser Center are ASLMS members in good standing to ensure that patients receive the very best treatment.
Patients who wish to take advantage of this very special offering must simply contact Arbutus Laser Center to schedule a consultation. Patients must provide an official letter from their oncologist or radiologist approving the removal of any radiation marks or tattoos.
This free service is open to all cancer patients and is not limited to breast cancer or lymphoma survivors. The program will be offered year-round.

Dr. Boey is participating in a new research study. The study is to evaluate a new procedure to lighten benign pigmented lesions on your skin. Benign pigmented lesions may be sun spots, freckles, melasma, moles or café au lait spots. The procedure would be performed by Dr. Boey with an investigational device made available for this study. The procedure would be in our office and you would be here for about 2 hours. During the procedure, small areas of your skin with pigmented lesions will be cooled with the investigational device. Each treated area will be about the size of a postage stamp.
The study would also require that:
You are willing to have as many as 40 of these cooling areas on your skin.
You return to our office for several follow-up visits for at least 3 months and maybe as long as 20 months.
Photographs are taken of the area to be treated before and after the procedure, and at each follow-up visit.
You avoid sun exposure or use sun protection on the treated areas. If you are interested, there are a now a few things that we need to make sure you don’t have. You must NOT
have a history of vitiligo, eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
have scars or tattoos in the treatment area
have a history of melanoma
get sick or have a reaction when contacted with or exposed to cold
have poor healing of wounds or injury to the skin
If none of these things are true and you are still interested, we’d like to schedule you for a more complete screening. When you come to the screening visit, which should take less than an hour, we will determine if you are eligible for the study. If you are, and you agree to participate, you will be asked to sign an informed consent document. You will then be scheduled for the procedure.
The company sponsoring this research study is also providing modest compensation for the time required for the study procedure and the follow-up visits. We will discuss this further at the screening visit if you are interested in participating.
After a full year of waiting for this new and exciting hand piece to arrive, the dual wavelength (1064 & 532) Pico Resolve hand piece uses an innovative mechanism of action to combat acne scars, textural irregularities, pigmentation and anti-aging.
This devices targets the dermis (under layer of the skin) while leaving the epidermis (outer layer of skin) intact, resulting in less downtime than fractional devices. This also decreases the risk of infection as the epidermis is not broken.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL
We have been providing successful permanent laser hair removal services since 1996.
Arbutus Laser Center has more than 50 years of combined laser and hair removal experience. When we acquired the first “permanent” hair removal laser in Western Canada in 1996 (a Ruby Epilaser made by Palamar), we also acquired the hair removal expertise of New-Tech Electrolysis Ltd (www.newtechelectrolysis.com). Very few practitioners in North America can claim to match the training and dedication of our hair removal team.
A commitment to the best results possible, balanced with a strong safety record has allowed us to build a strong practice where 90% of our business comes from word of mouth.
With more than a dozen different pieces of technology having been through our facility over the years, we currently rely on Syneron/Candela machines. The Alexandrite and NdYag represent both ends of the laser hair removal spectrum, allowing us to effectively treat lighter coloured hairs and safely treat darker skin types.
We believe that proper assessment and patient education are critical to safe and effective procedures. Consultations for hair reduction services at the Arbutus Laser Center are complimentary and suitable candidates are test-patched for safety prior to treatment. If you have questions about hair removal, we will do our very best to help you make an informed decision about what is right for YOU.
The Pico laser was created using dual wavelengths and a very short pulse duration (pico second) to treat tattoos and a wide range of pigmentation disorders. They are designed to safely and selectively destroy pigment in the skin using an intense pulse of laser light without damaging the skin itself. Continue reading “Introducing the NEW Pico Laser”→
