Skin Treatments

Age spots, Freckles and Pigmentation

Lentigenes, also known as sun or age spots, are benign pigmented (dark) lesions commonly affecting sun-exposed areas such as the face, upper chest, arms, and hands.

The Ruby, Medlite, Pico and IPL lasers actually destroy the pigment in the skin without damaging the skin itself. Our clinic also offers other treatment modalities for pigmentation such as the Fraxel Dual, Venus Viva, Pico Resolve and Excel V (Laser Genesis).

Deciding the best laser to treat the pigmented lesions is determined during the skin consultation. It is possible that a test area be performed before treating an entire area. The response is evaluated in 6 to 8 weeks and further treatment may be required. It is important to keep the area covered when outdoors for at least the first 10 days after treatment and to always use a sunscreen in the future.

Most pigmented lesions immediately after treatment become darker and a little crusty over the course of 5-10 days; this will eventually flake off leaving the treated area lighter than before treatment.

To prevent re-pigmentation, sometimes a bleaching agent such as 4% hydroquinone is used once the area has healed. Our clinic offers non-hydroquinone lightening agents for best results. For more information or to book a consultation, please speak to one of the staff at 604-731-5512.
