GENTLEMAX PRO® LASER

WHAT IS the GentleMax Pro® Laser?

The GentleMax Pro® laser is a very versatile medical-grade device, combining the power of long-pulse Alexandrite and Nd:YAG lasers for effective skin treatments and hair reduction. With its dual-wavelength technology, the GentleMax Pro® can safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin tones, from very light to very dark.

Alexandrite Laser: The Alexandrite laser emits a wavelength of 755 nanometers, making it highly effective for targeting melanin in the skin. It is primarily used for hair removal on individuals with fair to olive skin tones. The Alexandrite laser can also treat pigmented lesions, sunspots, and freckles, helping to improve overall skin tone and texture.

Nd:YAG Laser: The Nd:YAG laser emits a longer wavelength of 1064 nanometers, making it suitable for treating deeper skin tones. It is effective in hair removal for individuals with darker skin types and can also address vascular lesions, such as spider veins, as well as certain pigmented lesions.

The GentleMax Pro® features full adjustable spot sizes, fully adjustable pulse widths and high repetition rates, making it one of the most efficient and versatile devices in our facility. Our GMax Pros® (we have 3!), manufactured by Candela Medical are the backbone of our award winning Laser Hair Removal department, providing us with more power and flexibility than any other manufacturer in this arena. We have had a version of Candela’s Alexandrite Laser represented in each evolution of the technology, at our facility for more than 20 years. We know this device very, very well!

The device also incorporates a Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) that delivers a burst of cryogen before each laser pulse, enhancing patient safety and comfort during procedures.

Our approach to GentleMax Pro®:

Our GentleMax Pros® are very popular in our laser hair removal department, these lasers are also highly effective in other arenas at the clinic. Most common would be the Laser Genesis for treating diffuse redness or highly pigmented sun damage on the skin.

CONSIDERATIONS

The Alexandrite is used to target Melanin and is consequently not suitable for tanned or darker skin tones. The NdYag is suitable for all skin tones and more forgiving of sun exposure. Treatment sites must be kept cool and clean for 2 days post treatment.

PRICING

Pricing for the GentleMax Pro® treatments will vary widely depending on type of concern and the extent of the treatment area.

For hair removal, noticeable results can be seen after the first session. Please see our hair removal pages for more details.

For skin concerns, multiple sessions may be required to achieve optimal results and services such as Laser Genesis for skin rejuvenation may be done monthly as part of a good skin care routine.

Arbutus Laser Centre offers a wide selection of laser treatments, which expands our ability to cater to individual preferences. Different types of laser and skin renewal treatments have slightly different benefits, and our team will consult you on the best treatments for your specific skin needs.

QUESTIONS? WE’VE GOT ANSWERS

Q: Can the GentleMax Pro® laser treat spider veins on the face?

A: Yes, the GentleMax Pro® laser can effectively target spider veins on the face, providing visible improvement in their appearance.

Q: Is the GentleMax Pro® safe for treating dark spots on darker skin tones?

A: Yes, the dual-wavelength capability of the GentleMax Pro® allows it to be safely used on a
wide range of skin tones, including darker skin, to address pigmented lesions.

Q: Can the GentleMax Pro® laser treat all hair colours?

A: The GentleMax Pro® is most effective for hair removal on dark, coarse hair, but it can also target finer hair. However, it may not be as efficient on light or white hair.

Q: How soon after a tan can I undergo a GentleMax Pro® treatment?

A: It’s recommended to wait until your tan has completely faded before having a GentleMax Pro® treatment with the Alexandrite laser. Even slightly tanned skin can absorb more laser energy, increasing the risk of side effects. We recommend 1-2 weeks of minimal exposure prior to procedures with the NdYag wavelength.

Q: Can the GentleMax Pro® be used for laser skin resurfacing?

A: No, the GentleMax Pro® is primarily designed for hair removal, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, and skin rejuvenation. For laser skin resurfacing, other laser systems are more suitable.

Q: Can the GentleMax Pro® treat melasma?

A: The GentleMax Pro® can improve some pigmented lesions, but its effectiveness in treating melasma may vary. Other laser options and combination therapies may be more effective for managing melasma.

Q: Is the GentleMax Pro® laser painful?

A: The GentleMax Pro® is designed with patient comfort in mind. The Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) helps minimize discomfort during treatment by delivering a cooling burst before each laser pulse. Hair removal patients will generally find the NdYag a bit “spicier” and topical anesthetics are often used for sensitive areas or larger areas.
