Arbutus Laser | 30+ Years of Patience Centred-Excellence
Arbutus Laser has had experience with more than a dozen different devices for laser hair removal since Laser Hair Removal technology was first introduced in 1996 (See below for details) We currently house a number of machines that are capable of laser hair removal, but Candela (Syneron/Candela) equipment has been the backbone of this part of our facility for more than 20 years. The Alexandrite and NdYag wavelengths represent both ends of the laser hair removal spectrum, allowing us to effectively treat lighter coloured hairs and safely treat darker skin types.
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive and long-lasting solution for reducing hair growth, providing smoother and hair-free skin. Laser energy is selectively absorbed in the pigment of the hair shaft and follicle. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second, long enough to injure the follicle but not long enough for excess heat to be transferred to the skin surrounding the hair follicle. The result is safe and effective hair removal. Advancements in technology have made it suitable for most skin types and tones.
Arbutus Laser Centre has more than 50 years of combined laser and hair removal experience. When we acquired the first “permanent” hair removal laser in Western Canada in 1996 (a Ruby Epilaser made by Palamar), we also acquired the hair removal expertise of New-Tech Electrolysis Ltd. Most of our hair removal staff are trained Electrologists with a broad understanding of hair management options. Very few practitioners in the world can claim to match the training and dedication of our hair removal team.
A commitment to the best results possible, balanced with a strong safety record has allowed us to build a strong practice where 90% of our business comes from word of mouth.
Sun exposure must be avoided both before and after treatment. Treatment sites must be kept cool and clean for 48 hours post treatment. Dead hair shafts may take 1-3 weeks to shed. Expect multiple sessions.
Each body is different and our pricing for laser hair removal is dependent on the scope of work to be done and the time it takes us to do it. We always want to ensure that our work is comprehensive (We will never charge a separate fee for your toes if you are having your legs done!). Quotes for scope of work will be given during consultation. Small areas start at $125 per session. It is our goal to provide the best value in Hair Removal available.
We believe that proper assessment and patient education are critical to safe and effective procedures. Consultations for hair reduction services at the Arbutus Laser Centre are complimentary. Suitable candidates are always test-patched for safety prior to treatment and the $50 test patch fee will be deducted from your first treatment. If you have questions about hair removal, we will do our very best to help you make an informed decision about what is right for YOU.
A: Laser hair removal should not be performed directly on tattoos or areas with permanent makeup. The laser’s energy can target the tattoo ink or pigment, potentially causing skin damage or alterations to the tattoo.
A: Traditional laser hair removal approaches may not be effective on lighter hair, but at Arbutus Laser, we have a couple of tricks up our sleeves on treating red and blond hairs successfully. If you are curious about whether our lasers work for you, come see us for a consultation. Truly depigmented hair (white or grey) that have no melanin for the laser to target will be referred to Electrolyisis.
A: It is important to choose the right tool for the job. Most of our Hair Removal team are trained Electrologists and will not hesitate to refer you to Electrolysis if we think laser is inappropriate for you.
A: We have had good success safely treating individuals who are prone to keloid scarring.
A: Lasers cannot cure the underlying causes of HS but we have had very good success improving the inflammation that occurs in underarm and pubic areas. After successful Hair Removal at these sites, additional technology may be useful to improve residual scarring.
A: While laser hair removal can reduce and manage hair growth, it will not address the underlying hormonal imbalances causing hirsutism. It’s essential to consult with your healthcare professional to explore appropriate treatment options for hormonal conditions.
A: No. Tanned skin cannot be treated safely, at effective intensities, with the Alexandrite laser. The NdYag is suitable for darker skins and is more forgiving of sun exposure. Please wait 3 weeks after sun to come back and see us.
A: We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to undergo laser hair removal. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect hair growth patterns, and it’s best to wait for stable hormone levels for optimal results.
A: Patient selection is important. In our experience, stable growth usually responds very well, but growth that is still maturing may take many sessions. It is important to understand the nature of your particular situation before embarking on your hair removal journey. With suitable candidates, we have less than 1% of our patients who do not achieve 90% clearance within their predicted number of sessions.
