Dr. Gerald Boey B. Sc.(Med), M.D., C.C.F.P.
Founder and medical director of the Arbutus Laser Center, Dr. Gerald Boey established the clinic in 1992 as a cutaneous laser surgeon. He has lectured on various aspects of laser medicine globally and has contributed to numerous publications in the laser field. Dr. Boey is actively involved in trials of new laser and related technology. He is recognised for his experience and his warmful honesty with patients. He is an active member of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (www.aslms.org) and the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia (www.cpsbc.ca).
Dr. Donald Mintz, M.D., FRCSC, E.N.T.
As an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon, Dr. Mintz joined the ALC in 1994 initially treating snoring with laser devices. Since then, he has solidified his knowledge and expertise within the laser industry and is a key partner to the clinic. He currently works part time at the ALC and part time at his ENT practice. Dr. Mintz is known for his humourous and patient attitude. He is an active member of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (www.aslms.org) and the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia (www.cpsbc.ca).
Dr. Patrick Yam B.Sc., M.D., C.C.F.P.
Dr. Yam joined the ALC in 2014 and has received training alongside Dr. Boey in various aspects of cosmetic medicine including lasers for tattoo removal and vascular lesions, as well as injectables (cosmetic botox and fillers). As part of Dr. Yam’s keen interest in non surgical cosmetic medicince, he regularly attends professional training seminars in topics such as facial aesthetics, anti-aging, platelet rich plasma (PRP), acne therapy, and advanced energy devices such as laser, ultrasound and radiofrequency. Dr. Yam received his certification in Family Practice from the College of Family Physicians of Canada and is a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Faculty of Medicine, teaching resident physicians.
Dr. Michael Martin M.D.
Joined the ALC in 2003, Dr. Martin is an Interventional Radiologist and performs the Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT TM) as a replacement for surgery in patients with large varicose veins. He also works full time at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Roxanne Hallgren R.N. BScN.
Joined the ALC in 1996, Roxanne founded the successful Vancouver Vein Clinic ltd. in 1989. She has travelled the world to train with the best physicians in Phlebology. She has published articles, featured on CBC news hour and has spoken at the Canadian Society of Phlebology meeting, and more recently, the American Society of Phlebology meeting in November 2016. She has instructed many physicians and nurses in assessment and treatment of spider and varicose veins.
Karen Thomson R.N.
Joined the ALC in 2000, Karen has a 30 year background in critical care and angiography. She has performed hundreds of EVLT’s with Dr. Martin and still works part time at UBC. She also assesses patients for the treatment of spider and varicose veins.
Joined in 2003. Jennifer started at our front desk after having managed a large medical clinic but when Body Contouring came into being, she decided she would like to move into technical work. Jennifer has a long list of ‘firsts’ on her list of credentials. She also has made our facility a favourite clinical trial center for CoolSculpting and has been published for improving their results by 30%.
Mimi Le R.N. BScN.
Joined the ALC in 2007. With a background in the aesthetics and spa industry, Mimi started at our front desk reception putting her well honed interpersonal skills to use. Four years later, she became hands on in the technical aspect of the clinic. Having completed her nursing degree in 2015, she now uses her wealth of knowledge in every facet of the facility.
Joined in 2003. With a background in the aesthetics and spa industry, Miko has had the advantage of growing along with the emerging aesthetic laser industry. She has a wealth of technical experience that is hard to match and a dedication to the beauty of skin which sees her playing a vital role in patient care and assessment.
Joined the ALC in 1992. Michelle was instrumental in the initial stages of the ALC. A busy full-time mom, Michelle currently manages to play a part in our administration and treatments.
Juli Johnson RE, CPE
Joined in 1997. Juli is a second generation Electrologist who has been instrumental in the implementation of Electrolysis accreditation across Canada. She has taught and lectured throughout her 25 year career. It is unlikely to find anyone else in the world with more hands on experience, or more satisfied customers.
Carrie England RE, CPE
Joined the ALC in 2006 as laser hair removal specialist. Combined with her electrolysis training, Carrie’s knowledge in hair removal is vast. Her witty no-nonsense approach and meticulous skill make for a speedy and thorough laser session.
Amy Kounalakis RE, CPE
Joined the ALC in 2014, Amy has been in the cosmetic industry since 1996. Her abilities range from esthetics to body contouring to electrolysis. Her expertise, experience and knowledge result in excellent technique and assessment skills.
Joined the ALC in 2003. Kristal is a valued member of our clinic. With her infectious patience and kind attitude at the reception desk, Kristal is able to answer all of your questions regarding products, patient bookings and more.
Joined the ALC in 2006. Kim has played an integral part to ensure patient satisfaction at the reception desk. Her organization and easy going manner keeps everyone in the clinic on time. As a long time employee, Kim is very knowledgeable with the procedures done in our clinic.
Joined the ALC in 2014. Alyssa likes to keep busy by working at the front reception and ensuring everything in the clinic is in order for a smooth day. Her creative eye and energy have been a great benefit to the clinic.
Joined the ALC in 2015. Joanie’s calm and professional personality is the perfect fit in our clinic. Her memory and attention to detail make certain nothing gets missed in the clinic. She is always ready to greet patients with a friendly welcoming smile.
