WHAT is CO2?

The CO2 laser is in a powerful class of lasers known as ablative (removing tissue) lasers. The laser emits short pulses of high-energy light that precisely remove the outer layers of the skin.

The CO2 laser helps to soften lines, wrinkles, and reduce scarring. It is also used to treat other skin lesions such as sebaceous hyperplasia, seborrheic keratoses. syringomas and dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN).

Areas of treatment & benefits include:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles, including those around the eyes (crow's feet) and mouth.
  • Minimize the appearance of acne scars, enhancing the skin's texture and smoothness.
  • Can even out the skin tone and improve skin texture by encouraging collagen remodeling.
  • Promotes skin tightening, addressing mild to moderate skin laxity and sagging.
  • Flattens raised skin lesions such as DPN’s and sebaceous hyperplasias.

OUR APPROACH to CO2

The CO2 laser can be set in a focused cutting mode, or a scanned mode for fractionated resurfacing. 

The cutting mode was first used here to treat skin lesions such as sebaceous hyperplasias, seborrheic keratoses, syringomas and dermatosis papulosa nigras (DPN’s). It was also used to successfully remove the uvulas for snoring here at the clinic. It would cut and cauterize at the same time reducing additional bleeding and speed healing time.

Fractionated CO2 resurfacing is a CO2 device that delivers “fractionated” zones of ablation, or removal of skin tissue. It is more aggressive than Fraxel® treatments and designed for more significant problems such as fine lines and deeper wrinkles. As a result, the lines and wrinkles appear softer, smoother and less deep.

CONSIDERATIONS

Redness, swelling and plasma oozing is noticeable for about 7 to 14 days. Patients may experience peeling, flaking or crusting of the skin. Sun exposure must be avoided before and after treatment. Not suitable for darker or tanned skins.

PRICING

Pricing for our laser treatments will vary based on the treatment area and the concerns being treated. The minimum cost for CO2 procedures is $250 per session.

ACCESSIBILITY

Consultation is necessary to determine if CO2 Laser is the best device for your skin condition. Consultation fee is $125 and is taken at the time of booking your consultation. Consultation fees may be applied to services. Arbutus Laser Centre offers a selection of resurfacing treatments, which expands our ability to cater to individual preferences. Different types of resurfacing treatments have slightly different benefits, and our team will consult you on the best treatments for your specific skin needs.

Q: Can fractionated CO2 resurfacing be used on dark skin tones?

A: Fractionated CO2 resurfacing is generally not recommended for very dark skin tones due to a higher risk of pigmentation changes. However, CO2 cutting mode can be used on dark skin types, especially for treating DPN’s.

Q: Can fractionated CO2 resurfacing treat loose or sagging skin?

A: Fractionated CO2 resurfacing can improve mild skin laxity by promoting collagen production and skin tightening. However, for significant skin sagging, other procedures may be more suitable.

Q: Can fractionated CO2 resurfacing be combined with other treatments?

A: Yes, fractionated CO2 resurfacing can be combined with other treatments, such as dermal fillers, neuromodulator injections, and Fraxel® laser to enhance overall results and address different concerns simultaneously. Our fractionated CO2 resurfacing and Fraxel® laser full facial combination is very popular and effective.

Q: Can fractionated CO2 resurfacing treat vascular or pigmented lesions?

A: Fractionated CO2 resurfacing is primarily used for fine lines, wrinkles and improving skin texture. For vascular or pigmented lesions, other laser treatments, like pulsed dye lasers or Pico lasers, may be more effective.

Q: Can CO2 lasers be used on the body?

A: Yes, CO2 lasers can be used anywhere on the body.
